I Peter 2:24
“He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.”
Today we remember the sacrifice made over two thousand years ago.
Although Jesus is the Great Shepherd, He was the Lamb on that appointed day.
He chose to bear the sins of this world.
He walked toward His accusers knowing He would be nailed to the cross.
And as He hung upon the cross, He asked the Lord to forgive the ones who put Him there.
As His life was nearing an end and the pain was excruciating, He was gracious and merciful.
He prayed the Lord would forgive the people who put Him on the cross.
Their eyes were blinded as they accused this innocent Man.
Their mistake was covered in grace.
I, too, make mistakes and yet God’s grace flows over my shortcomings.
Our passage says that because Jesus died, we have died to sin.
We are not bound by it and are no longer controlled by it.
That’s not to say we won’t make mistakes for we are human.
However, we are covered by the blood.
We are made righteous by Him and we can live in righteousness instead of sin and death.
I love the last line of our passage which says, “By His wounds you have been healed.”
The Lord’s sacrifice so long ago brings healing today.
His temporary pain brought permanent healing to our bodies, minds, and spirits.
Although this has been a difficult year with unexpected losses in so many ways, the Lord is indeed our Healer.
He is Mercy and Grace.
And we are covered this day and all days as the Lord looks upon us in love.
Today I am thankful Jesus came to live here on this earth and willingly gave up His life so we can be made whole in Him.
May you find the Lord’s sacrifice covers you in grace and mercy this day and every day as you are made righteous through Him.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for sending Your Son to sacrifice His life for every one of us. Thank You for making a way for us to be wholly Yours. Thank You for being Creator and Savior of this world. Thank You for making a plan to bring us into relationship with You. And thank You for making us perfect in Your sight. Help us fully accept the sacrifice that has been made and receive Your gift of grace. Help us feel the magnificence of Your love. May Your grace continue to lift us into Your presence. May we be thankful for each beautiful moment we spend with You and may those moments never end. Keep us in Your presence, Father. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
