Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts on, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him.”
Just two lines.
Two lines that show us the way to joy.
My spirit is lifted reading this passage today.
King David, who could have become conceited with power, wrote that the Lord was his Strength.
He was a great warrior, yet he wrote about God being his “[impenetrable] Shield.”
Our modern-day movies depict great warriors and leaders as people who depend on no one.
But David was different.
He writes about his heart.
He tells us his heart trusts God.
His heart relies on God.
And he confidently leans on God.
He didn’t trust, rely, or lean on himself because he knew where his Strength came from.
His Strength and Shield were divine.
And since he wasn’t trusting in himself to fight battles and rule his people, his soul could rejoice.
This is such a great lesson for me today.
Often, when I try to do things of my own accord, I become restless, anxious, and fearful.
But when I trust in and rely on the Lord, my soul has an opportunity to be filled with joy and praise.
This lesson is also one of redirection.
I need to let go of the control I tend to take away from the Lord.
I need to set my burdens at His feet and allow Him to do the work.
He will do more in one millisecond than I can do in days.
Then my soul will indeed rejoice, and I will praise Him.
Today I choose to allow God to work in all the circumstances of my life and rejoice in Him and praise Him for all He does.
May you find as you allow God to be your Strength and Shield, you will praise and worship Him as well.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me You are my Strength and Shield. Thank You for reminding me You are working in all the circumstances of my life. Help me lay my burdens at Your feet, Lord. Help me give up all control so You can do what only You can do. As I watch You work, my heart rejoices, and I praise Your Name. Help me give everything to You, Lord. Help me give You my worries, cares, and anxieties. Replace them with Your gift of peace. May Your mercy be upon my life and the lives of my family. May Your grace be upon us. May Your favor be upon us and go ahead of us, so we walk into Your favor everywhere we go. May Your blessings overflow. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you and your household My child, and I will bless you, give you peace, favor, and My mercies will be ever upon you.
Respond: Undeserving of such riches, thank You Almighty God and merciful Father.
