Galatians 6:2 and 5
“Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your obedience to it].”
“For every person will have to bear (be equal to understanding and calmly receive) his own load [of oppressive faults].”
Paul told the Galatians to help carry one another’s burdens.
And not just their burdens, but their faults as well.
This is the more difficult task.
It’s one thing to help carry the burdens someone is struggling with.
It’s more difficult to bear one another’s faults as Paul tells us we should do.
Most of us simply stop communing with those who are hard to get along with.
We stop hanging out with people who are upsetting to us.
And, in general, this idea is now celebrated by most people.
There is a prevailing attitude of not putting up with anything that is offensive to us.
I’m sure I’ve left relationships more quickly and more often than I should have.
I’ve not turned a blind eye to the faults of others.
Instead, I’ve criticized or abandoned them.
This is sin.
I’m thankful Jesus’ blood covers my sin because none of us is without it.
As Paul said, “every person will have to bear (be equal to understanding and calmly receive) his own load [of oppressive faults].”
I certainly feel like I’ve spent a lifetime working on tempering my faults and overcoming my shortcomings.
And even so, as soon as I tackle one area of weakness, another one shows up.
We will never be perfect creatures this side of glory.
However, I am thankful God’s grace through His Son’s sacrifice allows Him to see us as perfect even amidst our failures.
Today I choose to ask God to help me be more generous to others regarding their faults and help lift their burdens as I am able.
May you find God will give you a heart that will be generous to others and allow you to bear their burdens as well as their faults.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for continuing to work on my heart. Thank You for molding me into the person You desire me to be. Thank You for drawing me closer to You and teaching me more of Your ways. You infuse more compassion into my spirit as I learn of You. You temper my emotions and help me be more generous. Lord, help me see the best in people and blind me to their worst. Help me cover their shortcomings and love them as You do. Help me see the hurt in their hearts and offer them comfort. May Your mercy and grace flow over their lives. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I take pleasure in teaching you more of My ways so you can help My people.
Response: Help me be obedient to You and help others as You ask of me.
