Mark 6:51-52
“And He went up into the boat with them, and the wind ceased (sank to rest as if exhausted by its own beating). And they were astonished exceedingly [beyond measure].”
“For they failed to consider or understand [the teaching and meaning of the miracle of] the loaves, [in fact] their hearts had grown callous [had become dull and had lost the power of understanding].”
Another rough water night at sea for the disciples.
Jesus continued to calm the storms around them.
Miracle after miracle was being done before their eyes, and yet, this passage says their hearts had become dull and callous.
Their hearts had “lost the power of understanding.”
Although they were constantly in the presence of the Lord, they were still losing zeal, fervor, and understanding about Him.
Interestingly, I am encouraged by our passages today because I feel this same way at times.
We are human, after all, and our humanness fails us.
However, one thing I want to guard against is the lack of understanding.
In order to stay connected to the Lord and in a place of understanding, I know I must do a few things every day.
First, I read His Word.
I find Him there.
I read about how He loved others and I can then feel His love for me.
Secondly, I write prayers to God every day.
Some years ago, I read about King David writing prayers to the Lord every morning.
He waited for God to speak to his heart.
I wondered if the same thing could happen to me, so I started writing.
This has been a most powerful way for me to stay deeply connected with God.
I am very aware this connectedness impacts my heart and my belief in His power.
Lastly, our passage tells us a hard heart leads to a lack of understanding, so I pray against it.
I specifically pray the Lord will keep my heart soft toward Him.
Today I choose to seek the Lord and pray He keeps my heart soft toward Him so I can learn more of Him and His ways.
May you find as You seek God, He will show you more of Himself and give you the desires of your heart.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me I need to stay deeply connected with you. Thank You for Your Word and for calling me to You to learn of You. Thank You for showing me more of You and more of Your ways as I read about You. Keep me seeking You, Father. Keep my heart soft toward You. Help me see the miracles You do every day. Don’t let me miss You, Lord, for I love to watch You work. I love to see Your hand in my life and the life of those You have given me to love. May Your mercy be upon us. May Your grace wash us clean. May Your love fill our hearts. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM pleased to teach you more about Me and fill your heart with understanding.
Response: I love learning about You, Lord, and pray You continue to teach me.
