Psalm 62:5 and 11
“My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.”
“God has spoken once, twice have I heard this; that power belongs to God.”
I love King David’s self-talk.
He is giving himself an order.
He is telling himself to wait on the Lord and only on the Lord.
This world is a noisy place.
There’s a constant stream of information bombarding us.
And there’s a barrage of people attempting to talk us into agreeing with them.
But David tells himself to look to the Lord, wait on Him and only Him.
He tells himself his hope is in God.
He tells himself his expectation is in God.
There is wisdom in following his lead and looking to the Lord.
Waiting on God.
The Lord will show us our next step.
He has the answers to our questions and our problems.
In fact, He has it all worked out.
And if we stop to take time to listen, He is talking.
I began thinking of my children.
As a parent, I can see a likely outcome if they do a certain thing or go a certain way.
I try telling them, but they aren’t listening.
And just like I want them to listen to me, God is waiting for me to listen to Him.
He is our only hope.
David also tells himself to “silently submit to Him.”
He doesn’t let himself have a fit or a breakdown.
He tells himself to wait quietly and then submit to the Lord’s call.
Lastly, David tells us he has heard “that power belongs to God.”
There is no question in David’s mind Who has the power, Who protects him, and Who grants him victory.
David’s self-talk is powerful.
We can learn to overcome our anxious minds with this kind of internal dialogue as well.
Today I choose to wait upon the Lord and submit to Him because He is my only hope.
May you find the Lord is your hope and He will deliver you from all evil as you wait upon Him.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for being an amazing God Who I can completely rely upon. Thank You for being the all-powerful God that You are. Lord, deafen the noise around me so I hear only from You. Help me lean into You and listen to Your voice. Help me be obedient to You and only You. When You tell me to stop, help me stop immediately. Don’t let me hang onto anything that I need to let go of. When You tell me to move forward, give me the courage to move forward. Help me step into the next thing You have planned knowing You have already worked out all the details. Grant me courage and the ability to do what I think I cannot. Thank You, Lord, for all You do and all You are. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you, My child, and I have all things worked out for your good and My glory. Just trust Me.
Response: Help me wait only upon You, Almighty and all-powerful God.
