John 11:38-39
“Now Jesus, again sighing repeatedly and deeply disquieted, approached the tomb. It was a cave, and a boulder lay against it.”
“Jesus said, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, exclaimed, But Lord, by this time he [is decaying and] throws off an offensive odor, for he has been dead four days!”
I wonder why Jesus was so agitated in our passage.
Perhaps this massive miracle required tremendous power and He was gathering His wits about Him.
Perhaps He was simply upset and feeling the impact of the death of His friend.
Or perhaps He was readying Himself to do battle with the spirit of unbelief.
In any event, this was not a peaceful moment.
He was getting ready to do something big.
He was going to give life to a dead man.
He was going to show Himself miraculous to increase the people’s faith in Him.
But when Jesus told Martha to take away the stone from the tomb, she was very indignant that this not be done.
She was in direct opposition to Jesus’s command as she “exclaimed, But Lord, by this time he throws off an offensive odor, for he has been dead four days!”
I have to admit, sometimes I feel the same way.
My initial response to God’s seemingly impossible plan is, but Lord.
I think about all the reasons why it cannot be done.
Jesus’ response is golden.
He said, “Did I not tell you and promise you that if you would believe and rely on Me, you would see the glory of God?”
Wow, I don’t ever want to miss the glory of God.
So, when He directs me to do something, I need to walk with Him in obedience.
It’s His plan, not mine.
I need to start saying yes to Him more quickly and more often.
Today I choose to be more obedient to the Lord as He guides me into His perfect plan for, I do not want to miss seeing His glory for even one second.
May you find the Lord is guiding you into His plan and showing you more and more of His glory.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for being the Almighty God that You are. Thank You for showing Yourself glorious in everything You do. Help me step into Your perfect plan so I can watch You work and participate in Your glory. Equip me in all ways to serve You. Strengthen me and give me an extra measure of courage today, Lord. Infuse me with an extra measure of faith as well. Help me be obedient to Your every whisper. Don’t let me miss You, Father. Open my spiritual eyes so I can see You perform the miraculous. Keep my eyes on You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM the Great I AM and there is nothing I cannot do My child.
Response: I praise You, Almighty and all-powerful God!
