John 17:1-2
“When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify and exalt and honor and magnify Your Son, so that Your Son may glorify and extol and honor and magnify You.”
“[Just as] You have granted Him power and authority over all the flesh (all humankind), [now Glorify Him] so that He may give eternal life to all whom You have given Him.”
This is Jesus praying for God to put Him on the cross.
Praying to sacrifice His life for us.
Praying “He may give eternal life to all” whom the Lord had given Him.
Jesus’ heart is pure love.
He is a Servant.
A Healer.
A Teacher.
Our King and Messiah.
All reverence is due Him.
He prayed to glorify and honor God through His sacrifice.
He indeed glorified God as He was raised from the dead.
We will praise Him for eternity!
I’m always impacted by this Jesus’ prayer He prayed to be glorified on a cross.
He’d have to endure the pain first.
The excruciating pain of the crucifixion.
First the pain and then there was glory.
Glory to Him and God, the Father.
Jesus’ prayer continued through the whole chapter.
In verse thirteen He prays, “And now I am coming to You; I say these things while I am still in the world, so that My joy may be made full and complete and perfect in them [that they may experience My delight fulfilled in them, that My enjoyment may be perfect in their own souls, that they may have My gladness within them, filling their hearts].”
Joy, delight, enjoyment, and gladness are meant to fill our hearts.
May we receive these precious gifts Jesus died to give us.
Today I choose to receive joy, delight, enjoyment, and gladness in the Lord and rejoice in these precious gifts offered.
May you find joy, delight, enjoyment and gladness in Jesus today as His sacrifice covers you for eternity.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for sending Your Son to this earth to bring Your people back to You. Thank You for allowing His sacrifice. Jesus, thank You for being willing to leave heaven’s door to live and die for me. Thank You for Your pure heart of love and service. Thank You for Your determinedness to carry out Your mission to save me and the world. Thank You for being the Light of this world. May You fill my heart with Your love to overflowing so it spills over into the lives of others. Help me serve as You have served. Help me give as You have given. Help me care for others as You have cared. May my heart be broken with compassion for others as Yours was. Help me walk out my life as You have planned. May Your joy fill my soul as You gave Your life to make it so. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: My love is made complete through My Son’s sacrifice and is for all My people for all time.
