Daily Word:
Hebrews 2:9
“But we are able to see Jesus, Who was ranked lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because of His having suffered death, in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person."
Luke 22:44
“And being in an agony [of mind], He prayed [all the] more earnestly and intently, and His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.”
Hematidrosis is the name of the condition that Jesus endured when He sweat drops of blood in the Garden of Gethsemane.
It is a condition of severe emotional distress.
I believe that Jesus distress in the Garden wasn’t so much about dying.
I believe it was that Jesus was feeling the burden of every sin – past, present and future – that He would dying for.
He was experiencing true death of all those sins.
It was almost unbearable for Him.
There have been many people who walk to their death without experiencing this phenomenon.
There are people who serve our country knowing that they may have to sacrifice their lives for others and their country.
There are people who know that their illness will take their lives and they do not sweat drops of blood.
And there are other heroes who step into harm’s way to save another.
Jesus, however, was about to experience death for every person for eternity as the first verse above states, “in order that by the grace (unmerited favor) of God [to us sinners] He might experience death for every individual person.”
This is why His sacrifice was so great.
This was how much He suffered, “His sweat became like great clots of blood dropping down upon the ground.”
Today I am thankful that Jesus willingly came to this earth to live and die for all people – taking our place of eternal damnation.
May you find that Jesus’ sacrifice is to be highly praised as he took away the sins of the world through His death.
Blessings be to you!
