John 17:13
“And now I am coming to You; I say these things while I am still in the world, so that My joy may be made full and complete and perfect in them [that they may experience My delight fulfilled in them, that My enjoyment may be perfected in their own souls, that they may have My gladness within them, filling their hearts].”
True joy comes from God.
Jesus was getting ready to go back to heaven.
His desire was that His joy, delight, enjoyment, and gladness would fill the hearts of the disciples and ultimately us as well.
We seem to be living in a time of great despair.
The attitude of our teens and young adults is cultivating despair.
They speak of nothing else.
It seems almost epidemic.
But the Lord came to this earth and died for us, in part, so that His joy would fill our hearts.
He said, “…so that My joy may be made full and perfect in them.”
The Amplified version further explains, “[that they may experience My delight fulfilled in them, that My enjoyment may be perfected in their own souls, that they may have My gladness within them, filling their hearts].”
Delight, enjoyment, and gladness.
What wonderful words.
He came to give us a legacy of joy.
We desperately need to ponder and meditate on this gift.
As I remember all of what God has done for me, joy fills my heart.
A grateful heart brings joy to the surface.
Today I choose to think on the wonderful acts of God and be thankful for all He has done for me and all of His promises yet to come.
May you find that as you think on the greatness of God that He fills your soul with joy, delight, and gladness.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for every blessing You have bestowed upon me and the family You have given me. Thank You for the mighty and great acts and miracles Your Word tells me about. As I read Your Word I am amazed at Who You are. You are mighty yet merciful. You are powerful yet gracious. You are loving and forgiving. You see me as Your beautiful creation. Even when I am far less than perfect, You see me without blemish. Thank You, Father, for calling me to know You and love You. Thank You for the joy that fills my soul as I recount all of Your blessings. Thank You for lifting me up to feel Your Holy Spirit touch me, Father. When I feel far from Your reach, You reach further. Thank You for never letting me go. Help me love Your people, Lord. Help me instill joy and gladness in the heart of another. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: In Me there is joy and gladness.
Response: May I fully receive Your joy and gladness in my heart as You offer it.
