Daily Word:
Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us,”
“Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also it’s Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Wow!
Herein lies untold wisdom.
Let’s dissect it a bit.
The author of Hebrews tells us to stay away from sin which, “so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us”.
If sin clings to and entangles us then how do we stay away from it?
With patience.
With persistence.
Running the steady race.
We also stay away from sin by, “Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus”.
Sometimes we have to change our lives in ways that will minimize and rid us of distractions that take us away from God and His Son.
I hear Him in the quiet not the chaos.
We have to make time for Him.
Lastly, the Hebrews author has a number of wonderful words to describe our dear Lord.
Leader, Source, and Finisher.
If we keep our eyes on Jesus and minimize our distractions we can fully rely on Him to be our Leader, and Source, and Finisher.
Today I choose to keep my eyes on Jesus and minimize the distractions that will take me away from His great purpose for me.
May you find that as you spend time with our Lord that He will become the Leader, Source, and Finisher of your soul.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for sending Your Son to live and die for me so that my soul can be fully Yours. Thank You for leading me to You, Father. Thank You for choosing me to be Yours. Thank You for making a way for me to know You and worship You. Thank You for giving me a Source to cling to and rely on and believe in. Thank You for Sending Your Son to be the Finisher of my soul - to grow me up in Your ways and perfect my love for You. Help me to come to You with all my troubles, difficulties, and frailties knowing that You will strengthen me and work out all the circumstances for my well being. Help me quiet my mind and soul from all the anxious thoughts that I have so that I may rest in Your peace. Quiet the chaos around me, Father, and help me look to You for all that I need. Increase my faith so that I am confident that Your will is perfect and Your will is done. No matter what the circumstances look like from here, help me know that it is perfect and that You are working out all for my good. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I go before you to work out every detail of your life, My child.
Response: Thank You, most gracious and merciful God.
