Luke 2:16-19
“So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger.”
“And when they saw it, they made known what had been told them concerning this Child.”
“And all who heard it were astounded and marveled at what the shepherds told them.”
“But Mary was keeping within herself all these things weighing and pondering them in her heart.”
I love reading about the first Christmas.
And I find beauty in Mary’s response to all the miraculous things happening around her.
She treasured these things in her heart.
It made me think about how I move through Christmas.
I move too fast.
It’s a race to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Exhaustion sets in early in the month of December from all the activities of the Season.
There’s the decorating which means deep cleaning before decorating.
Attending children’s school programs, church programs, and extracurricular celebrations.
There are work parties, family parties, and children’s parties.
Presents to buy and wrap.
It’s all about doing all the things.
Doing all the things with the exception of quietly pondering the birth of Christ.
Doing all the things except worshiping the Lord.
And doing all the things except creating special memories with my family that we can all can treasure within our hearts for years to come.
I am convicted as I read about Mary and how quietly she celebrated and treasured all that was going on around her.
Today I choose to be intentional about how I spend my time as I desire to create special memories with the Lord and my family that I will be able to treasure.
May you find special moments this Christmas Season that you will be able to treasure in your heart for years to come.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me of the importance of worshiping You during this most holy and precious Season. Thank You for sending Your Son to be born into this world to save the world. Help me keep this time holy and sacred even as I complete the necessary tasks ahead of me. Help me release projects and tasks that do not need my attention. And prompt me to lean into the things You ask of me. Keep my eyes on You, Lord. Keep my mind on heavenly things so I may truly worship and celebrate Your Son’s birth. May my heart be Yours, Father. Protect me from the world’s desire to draw me into its busyness and chaos. Keep me seeking You and Your peace. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: You are Mine, My child, and I will keep you close to Me as you celebrate this holy Season.
Response: May my heart be worshipful and honor You during this time, Lord.
