Resort to Prayer

Psalm 109:1-4
O God of my praise! Keep not silence,
For the mouths of the wicked and the mouth of deceit are opened against me; they have spoken to me and against me with lying tongues.
They have compassed me about also with words of hatred and have fought against me without a cause.
In return for my love they are my adversaries, but I resort to prayer.
King David had many strong adversaries throughout his reign.
Even before his reign began, King Saul tried to kill him.
David could have taken Saul’s life more than once, but he did not.
He would not cause harm to God’s anointed even when it was clear the anointing was gone.
He waited for God to step in.
David waited patiently for a decade or more for Saul’s death.
He shows us the power of patience, the power of praise, and the power of prayer.
Before David brought his plea to the Lord, he brought his praise.
Our first verse says, “O God of my praise!”
Then he writes about their deceit and hateful words against him.
These people had been his friends, confidants, advisors, and maybe even his sons.
In our last verse he writes, “In return for my love they are my adversaries, but I resort to prayer.”
David always resorted to prayer.
He shows us how to turn to praise and prayer when people turn against us in hatred.
He shows us how to turn to praise and prayer when people talk badly about us.
And he shows us how to turn to praise and prayer when people lie about us to others.
David reminds us Who our trusted companion, confidant, and protector is.
God is our Shield.
He is our Defense.
He will come to our aid.
And He brings comfort to our souls in times of trouble.
Today I choose to praise God for all He is and pray His justice reigns over my life.
May you find the Lord is a God of justice and will make all things right for you as you praise Him and pray.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, we praise You! We praise You for all You do and all You are. You are Almighty God and Creator of our souls. Help us look to You for all we need, Father. Help us give our injustices to You for You to make just and right. Help us allow You to defend us and lift us up. Let us not try to defend ourselves. You are a God Who avenges us. May our hearts praise You as we watch You work in all the difficult circumstances in our lives. Keep our eyes on You, Father. Keep our hearts soft with compassion. Do not let our hearts be hardened by this world, Lord. Keep us Yours as the world tries to take us for its own. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM the great I AM, and vengeance is Mine. Rest in Me today.
Response: Quiet our hearts and help us rest in You, Father. Amen
