Hebrews 8:12
For I will be merciful and gracious toward their sins and I will remember their deeds of unrighteousness no more.
God is merciful.
Google’s definition of mercy is: compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.
God has the power to punish but He chooses not to.
He chooses mercy, compassion, and forgiveness over punishment.
How great a love is this?
His love reaches down and covers us.
Verse 12 says, “I will remember their deeds of unrighteousness no more.”
He sees us as unblemished.
If only we could see ourselves and others in the same unblemished way.
I am convicted of the sins I remember about myself and others.
If I continue to roll those sins around in my mind, I cannot offer forgiveness to myself or others.
While sins against us hurt us, we are called to offer mercy and forgiveness just as God offers these things to us.
Part of forgiveness is forgetting.
Forgetting the sins of the past allowing room for God to work.
He is our avenger.
Romans 12:19 says, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
So, today I choose to offer mercy and grace over punishment and will forgive myself and others.
May you find that mercy and grace are fully yours, and that you can fully receive and offer it.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for Your unending mercy, grace, and forgiveness. Thank You for choosing to love us and see us as unblemished. Help us forgive ourselves as You do. Help us forgive the sins of others, Lord, so we may truly love them. May Your unconditional love flow through us to others. May we sit in Your presence for a few precious moments today, Lord, and be fully restored to You. Help us bless someone today, Lord. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM merciful and gracious to you. Offer mercy and grace to others.
Response: May we fully receive Your mercy today, Lord, and offer it to those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
