Matthew 9:36
“When He saw the throngs, He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless), like sheep without a shepherd.”
I love this verse.
It shows me the heart of Jesus.
He had sympathy for the people because He said they were bewildered, harassed, distressed, dejected, and helpless.
I relate to most of these adjectives, don’t you?
It seems we are no less troubled in our current generation than when Jesus walked on this earth.
However, we can be assured the Lord has pity on us and sympathy for us just as He did for the people in His day.
And His compassion is not just for us.
It is for those all around the globe.
For all who are suffering.
This comforts me greatly.
I am so thankful for the Word.
Even though it was written some two thousand years ago, it is completely relevant today.
I can almost hear Jesus saying the exact same words to us and Him feeling the exact same way toward us.
He is compassionate.
He is sympathetic.
As I reflect on this passage and our Lord, a deep thankfulness raises up in my spirit.
I feel He is listening to my heart.
I feel heard.
And I feel His love wash over me.
So, the feelings of bewilderment, distress, dejection, and helplessness disappear as I understand the Creator of this universe cares for me deeply.
I no longer need the approval of others because I have His.
Today I choose to bask in God’s love and allow Him to bathe me in His peace as I sit in His presence for these few precious moments.
May you find the Lord is reaching His hand down to you to lift you up to His presence and love you immensely today and every day.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me how much You care for me. Thank You for Your Word which reveals to me that You and Your Son have great compassion for me and all Your people. You see my pain. You see my distress and feelings of helplessness. You see when I am dejected and pushed aside. You see my bewilderment in it all. Lord, help me always remember You made me. Help me remember You made me in Your image, and You love me immensely. Help me take my eyes off the world and its evaluation of me and remind me that I am beautiful to You. May I sit with You today? May I sit at Your feet and be covered in the shadow of Your wings? Soothe my soul and lift my spirit, Lord. When all seems awry and the chaos continues, let me just sit with You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you My child and I watch over you and protect you for you are My treasure.
Response: Undeservedly loved and cared for by You, Almighty God and Father. Thank You.
