Hebrews 13:5
Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [ you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
It’s easy to get caught up in worldly things.
Most of us want more of everything.
There’s always something better, more stylish, or new to fix our eyes on.
But the Hebrews writer tells us to be free from craving earthly possessions.
The constant desire of wanting more and wanting better causes worry and stress.
Instead, we can live peacefully when we are satisfied with God’s ample provision.
I think about my children when they were small.
When they wanted more.
More of everything.
And when they did, their disposition was unhappy.
They became consumed with something they wanted, so were unable to enjoy what they already had.
Finally, I’d break down and give them what they wanted when I could.
But the new thing quickly became the old thing.
And then they were onto another new thing.
They were consumed with materialism, so couldn’t enjoy the things they already had.
This is clearly displayed in our children, but we don’t necessarily see it in ourselves.
God’s promise in our verse tells us He will never leave us destitute.
He will provide for us.
He promises to not fail us, give up on us, or leave us without support.
It’s repeated in our verse three times.
So, we can be sure we will never be without God’s help and provision.
Today I choose to seek the Lord and learn of Him as He works out His best for me.
May you find your needs are well cared for, and you are able to seek the Lord and find His best for you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for taking care of us in every way. Thank You for continually watching over us and providing for us. Thank You for Your promise to never relax Your hold on us. Help us remain at peace knowing You are our Support. Help us lean into You and rely on You for all we need. May we rest our minds from the worries and stress of this world. Keep our eyes on You instead of the world and all its empty promises. Help us be thankful for all You provide. May we be grateful for all You do for us and not desire empty and meaningless things. Help us follow You and be obedient to You, Lord. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM watching over you and providing for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Me.
