Luke 16: 24-25
“And he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have pity and mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.”
“But Abraham said, Child, remember that you in your lifetime fully received [what is due you in] comforts and delights, and Lazarus in like manner the discomforts and distresses; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.”
Our passage comforted me today because life is hard.
There is mountain after mountain to climb.
Trials come and we are tested to our physical, emotional, and spiritual limits.
But there is hope.
The hope of being held by our Lord.
Held now and held for eternity by Love Himself.
We are so fortunate to know the Lord.
To be chosen to know the Lord.
And we are beyond blessed to live in the days since Jesus died and was resurrected.
We are offered relationship with God Almighty, Himself.
We are able to sit at His feet and be filled with His Holy Spirit.
We don’t have to rely on a priest or prophet to speak to the Lord and hear His gentle voice.
He is in our hearts today and every day.
Even though we may not be abundantly blessed with money or physically blessed in this lifetime, we are blessed to know we have an abundant eternity.
The rich man in our passage was told he “fully received [what was due him in] comforts and delights” while he was alive.
And he was due no more.
At the same time Lazarus suffered.
He suffered much physical discomfort and disease while alive.
And he was not blessed monetarily.
But now he is comforted in the arms of Abraham and comfort is his for eternity.
So, today I choose to be thankful for the hope I have in the Lord for abundant eternal blessings.
May you find hope in God’s goodness to you now and for eternity.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for Your promises. Thank You for Your goodness as You walk with me through this life. And thank You that one day You will receive my spirit in heaven when my time on earth is done. Thank You for blessing me richly as I learn more and more about you. Thank You for showing me more of You and Your ways. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to me and residing in me. And thank You for leading and guiding me through the darkness of this world into Your Light. Help me fully receive all Your blessings, Father. Help me open my heart to Yours and receive the fullness of Your love. You are the God of the universe and God of my heart. Help me share You with others, Father. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I have a place for you here with Me when your time on earth is done, My child, and will hold your heart close until then.
Response: Thank You for keeping my heart close to You, most gracious and merciful Lord.
