Mark 5:15-17
“And they came to Jesus and looked intently and searchingly at the man who had been a demoniac, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, [the same man] who had had the legion [of demons]; and they were seized with fear.”
“And those who had seen it related in full what had happened to the man possessed by demons and to the hogs.”
“And they began to beg [Jesus] to leave their neighborhood.”
This is, of course, the story of the man who was possessed by enemy spirits and lived among the tombs.
The evil spirits recognized Jesus.
And they asked Jesus to send them into the two thousand hogs.
Then the hogs rushed down the mountainside into the sea and drowned.
I am struck by the people’s response to the miracle Jesus performed.
Everyone knew the man who had lived among the tombs.
They saw he was finally released from this torment.
And yet they became fearful when they saw the hogs drown in the sea.
They witnessed the power of God in that moment and became afraid.
They became so afraid they asked Jesus to leave.
And I wonder if I have done the same thing when the God’s power became overwhelming.
Do we get so overwhelmed that we ask God to distance Himself from us?
I pray the Lord gives me an extra measure of courage so I can stay as close to Him as possible.
Jesus didn’t seem bothered at their request He depart.
He simply went on His way and continued to teach and heal the multitudes.
His mission of compassion and love did not change.
Today I choose compassion over disengagement and love over fear.
May you find the Lord’s mission to love others is alive and well and He puts more than enough love in your spirit to share with those around you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me Your love never changes. Thank You for reminding me to continue to love others even amidst the trials this life brings. Lord, help me love others while I climb the mountains you ask me to climb. Do not let me get so overwhelmed with the pain of this world that I stop loving and caring for those around me. Fill me with Your Spirit so completely, that I am able to love out of Your abundance. May Your peace be upon me today, Father. May You comfort my soul through and through. May Your grace shine upon me and Your favor go before me. Help me be obedient to You and not cower in fear. Grant me courage and strength today, Lord. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you My child and My love is in your spirit so you can love others well.
Response: Help me love others well beyond my capacity, Father.
