Psalm 57:1
“Be merciful and gracious to me, O God, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed.”
David walks us through what to do in the storms of life.
First, he takes time to pray.
Second, he prays the Lord will be merciful and gracious to him.
We all need God’s mercy during the storm.
Mercy is compassion.
It is also God’s forbearance.
It is overlooking our mistakes and giving us grace when we don’t deserve it.
Our God is always a God of grace and forgiveness.
David prayed for these things and the Lord heard his prayer.
We can be assured the Lord hears our prayers as well.
He is listening to our cries for help, and He answers us.
Third, David tells the Lord he takes refuge in Him.
He finds shelter in the Lord.
Our soul definitely needs shelter.
Our mind, will, and emotions need to find rest, because during the storm our minds and emotions work overtime.
They are constantly reminding us we are in the storm.
Fear and anxiety are at an all-time high.
So, I love that David addresses it here.
He also wrote He has confidence in the Lord.
Another powerful thing to tell ourselves in the storm.
We need to dig in here and keep telling ourselves our confidence is in the Lord, so we are constantly reminding ourselves Who is in control.
Lastly, David wrote He will take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings until the storm passes.
And not just a regular storm.
A calamity type storm.
A destructive storm.
His words can help guide us through how to pray, think, and act during our most difficult storms.
His methodology also works if the storm isn’t of calamitous proportion.
His steps help reduce our daily fears and anxieties.
Today I choose to rest in the Lord as He works out all the circumstances of my life.
May you find the Lord is close to you, hears your prayers, and offers you peace in the storms of your life.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me how to remain calm in the difficult storms of life. Thank You for Your Word which guides and directs my steps. Thank You for Your servant, King David, who continually shows me what to do in times of trouble and in times of peace. Lord, help me find Your mercy and grace during this storm. May my soul take refuge in You even when things look bleak. Quiet my emotions and anxiety, Father. Help me rest in the shadow of Your wings. Help me know You are working all things out according to Your glory. Keep me at Your feet, Lord. Keep me seeking You whether in good times or bad. May my confidence in You be stronger than my mind’s wanderings. May Your peace rest upon me today. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM the Great I AM, and I AM watching over you today and every day My child.
Response: May my heart be Yours, Father.
