Yes And No

Daily Word:
Matthew 5:37
“Let your Yes be simply Yes, and your No be simply No; anything more than that comes from the evil one.”
Jesus was giving His Sermon on the Mount.
He was offering up the Be-attitudes.
He was talking about the blessings to be found in our difficulties.
He was explaining the blessings that await the humble, the mourners, the meek, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peace makers, the falsely accused and more.
Then He began to share some powerful words of Wisdom and words to live by.
The ones that really spoke to me today are in our verse, “Let your Yes be simply Yes, and your No be simply No; anything more than that comes from the evil one.”
As I look at simplifying my life in other ways, Jesus is encouraging our language to be simplified as well.
Saying a simple yes or a simple no.
These words and/or responses need no further explanation.
It’s either yes or no.
More than a yes, or a no, are necessary.
Jesus said anything further was from the enemy.
As I thought about what might come after a yes or no, I found that the words may be negative following either response.
For instance, yes, I will do that for you if you do something for me.
Or, yes, but I have many other things to do today.
There are an infinite number of words that can follow a yes or no, but the Lord said don’t use them.
Today I will focus more on my language and simplify where I can; being particularly cognizant of my yes and no responses with no explanation after either word.
May you find that you become more aware of the use of language and can simplify where appropriate.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for teaching me the little things that can turn into big things. Thank You for showing me where I can simplify in my life including the language that I use. Help me not make excuses as I speak with others as well as myself. Help me be straight forward with others and not speak negatively. May you guide me in this area and set a guard upon my mouth so that I only speak positivity and life to those around me. Help me not hurt anyone with my words or actions. Keep my thoughts on You and all the wonderful things You have done for me, Lord. Help me be grateful for all Your wonderful acts in my life. Keep me singing Your praises as I go about my day, Father. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you, My child, guiding you in all that you do.
Response: Thank You, dear heavenly Father.
