This devotion is taken from my latest book, “It’s A Wrap: A Christmas Devotion for Moms” that is available on Amazon.
Luke 1:38
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Even though the message from the angel Gabriel jolted her entire being, Mary surrendered her life to God.
The road she was about to walk would not be easy.
Can you imagine being the mother of the Son of God?
While it may seem wonderful and magical for a moment, we must remember she watched her Son die on the cross.
That I cannot imagine.
Still, she surrendered and said, “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
It is amazing what God can do when we surrender—truly surrender to our circumstances and surrender to our current position in life.
Some years back we didn’t have the money to buy ingredients to make our neighbors the usual Christmas menagerie of holiday goodies.
Even though my heart was heavy, I surrendered and relied on God and His provision instead of choosing to climb under the covers and hide.
I took inventory of what we had instead of what we didn’t.
We had bunches and bunches of small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, tiny hand soaps, and lotion from hotels because we’d been a traveling family.
God inspired me to make something with all these toiletries.
I searched the Christmas boxes in the basement for unused wreaths, took some wreaths off the walls, and supplemented with a few more from the Dollar Store.
I proceeded to make Christmas bathroom wreaths for all the neighbors.
What do you need to surrender to the Lord?
It may be disappointment, illness, or overwhelm.
Lay your burdens at the feet of Christ.
Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy[1]laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls]” (Matthew 11:28, AMPCE).
Our circumstances may be less than perfect today but let us surrender everything that troubles us and allow Jesus to give us rest.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for the promise that we will find rest in You. Help us leave our cares, burdens, and anxieties at Your feet. May we surrender our full hearts to You today. Don’t let us miss You, Father. Don’t let us miss the way You take care of us and bless us. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM working in all the circumstances of your lives. Trust in Me.
Response: Help us give you our burdens and allow You to do what only You can do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
