Luke 2:35
“And a sword will pierce through your own soul also – that the secret thoughts and purposes of many hearts may be brought out and disclosed.”
A man named Simeon prophesied to Mary when Jesus was just a baby.
Simeon was told in a divine dream that he would see the Messiah before he died.
And when he saw Jesus in the temple as a baby, his dream was fulfilled.
He told Mary that her soul would be pierced with a sword.
Mary, as the mother of Jesus, had to watch her son die in such a horrible way.
He had done no wrong, yet He was placed between two men who broke the law.
How could a mother look upon her child as He was being tormented through this death sentence?
Only through God’s strength and mercy.
Our verse shows us that she was told in advance of her suffering.
And that her suffering would provide a way for us to have relationship with the Almighty God.
She was deeply blessed to be chosen to give birth to the Messiah, and yet, deeply hurt as she watched His fate being carried out.
May we look to Mary’s example as we face our own difficulties and trials.
May we lean into the Lord for His strength, mercy, and grace as she must have.
May we celebrate the abundant blessings we are given through Jesus’ sacrifice.
And may we celebrate our mothers on this Mother’s Day.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for Your perfect will. Thank You for sending Your Son to this earth to save from ourselves. Thank You for His mother, Mary, who was willing to care for Him in this earthly life and then let Him return to You before she was ready to let Him go. Thank You for the mothers you’ve given to bring us into the world. May you bless all mothers today, Lord. May You keep watch over each one. Keep all of Your children looking to You, Lord. Help us lean into You and seek Your face. May we sit in Your presence for a few precious moments today. Keep us in Your perfect care, Lord. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM watching over you and desire to bless you, My children.
