A Tender Moment

John 19:26-27
“So Jesus, seeing His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near, said to His mother [Dear] woman, See, [here is] your son!”
“Then He said to the disciple, See, [here is] your mother! And from that hour, the disciple took her into his own [keeping, own home].”
To me, one of the most tender moments documented in Jesus’ life was when He was on the cross.
It wasn’t when He died.
That was certainly His most powerful moment.
But I think He exhibited one of the most tender moments on this earth when He took care of His mother’s future.
We don’t know what happened to Joseph, but we do know he wasn’t with Mary at the time of Jesus’ death.
And if he would have been alive, Mary would have been entrusted to his care.
Jesus passed the care of His mother onto John in what I feel like was a most beautiful final act of service to her.
I noted the exclamation points used along with His instructions.
He was a Man of action until the end of His life.
I find our passage to be a great lesson of service.
He taught me there is always time to serve.
There is never an appropriate time to not serve others.
You see, there are many times I feel too tired to do that one last thing – that one last act of service.
When I feel that way in the future, I need to remember the last few moments on the cross for Jesus.
I can remember He didn’t quit serving until He drew His last breath.
And even then, He served us until His resurrection and beyond as He is still serving us today in heaven.
He knocks at the door of my heart every day.
And He changes me with every passing day.
Today I choose to serve and be available to the Lord to use me in whatever way He needs.
May you find you are available to serve the Lord beyond what you think is even possible as He equips you to do His will.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me Your Son was a true Servant. He was a man of action even while He was dying on the cross. His mission to save the world would be complete as He died, and yet before that time came, He made sure His earthly mother was cared for. Father, help me give of myself so purely. Help me serve You with my whole being. Help me be obedient to You and all You ask me to do. Equip me with courage and strength to follow Your commands. Give me a compassionate heart so I can act as Your Son acted, Lord. Help me see with Your eyes and love with Your heart. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM equipping you with all you need to serve Me as I ask, My child.
Response: Help me receive all You have for me and be obedient to You in every way.
