At His Weakest

Daily Word:
Luke 4:2-3
“For (during) forty days in the wilderness, where He was tempted (tried, tested exceedingly) by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, He was hungry.”
“Then the devil said to Him, If you are the Son of God, order this stone to turn into a loaf [of bread].”
I have read about Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness so many times over the years, and yet today I saw something new.
He was tempted by the devil in many ways during those forty days.
The Amplified Bible’s translation says He was “tested exceedingly”.
We can only imagine what He went through.
Forty days is a long time.
It is a long time to go without food.
It is a long time to go without interaction with others.
It was a long time to be in the desert.
But it wasn’t until the end of those forty days that the devil came to tempt Him in the ways that we read about in the Bible.
It wasn’t until He had already gone through a most difficult experience.
Until He was extremely hungry.
Until He was at His weakest moment.
Then our verses tell us that He was tempted further by the enemy.
The first temptation was food.
When I think about being hungry – really hungry – I am at my weakest.
That is when I give into temptation.
But the Lord didn’t give in.
He didn’t turn the stone into bread.
Even though He would later feed the thousands with just a few fish and loaves of bread, He wouldn’t feed Himself.
He abstained.
He was obedient to His Father and maintained discipline.
I need His strength today and every day.
I need His discipline.
Today I choose to call upon Jesus to help me be more disciplined in my life and to give me strength to do as He asks even though temptation comes.
May you find that as You call upon the Lord to help you and strengthen you that He will come to Your aid.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for every lesson You teach me. Thank You for showing me that I need to be more disciplined as Your Son exemplifies this in His walk on this earth. Please strengthen me as I try to do Your will. Help me walk by faith and not by human needs. Help me when I am at my weakest to call upon You and Your Name. Do not let me give into weakness, Lord. You are Almighty God. You are Strength and Perfection. Please infuse these into my soul. Keep me from temptation and deliver me from all evil. Sweeten my soul, Father. May Your love permeate my spirit as I run empty and feel dry. May I find all joy in You. Keep me looking to You, Lord, for all that I need. This world cannot supply my desires, but You can, and You do. Prepare me to serve You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you, My child, and will help you in every way so that I may use you for my glory.
Response: Thank You, perfect and loving God.
