Daily Word:
Romans 5:3-4
“Moreover, let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.”
“And endurance develops maturity of character. And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.”
Paul talks about rejoicing in times of trouble.
This is easier said than done.
It is also easier to embrace when things are easy.
It’s so much more difficult to swallow the idea of rejoicing in times of trouble.
We simply wish the hard times were over.
We cannot wait until the difficulties end.
We wonder how much more we can endure.
Hence, the word endurance.
Every day seems like an eternity.
And we just wish it were over.
When I look back over my life and the trials I have faced, I remember those thoughts very well.
However, I also now know that those times were necessary.
They were faith building times.
The Lord was asking for my full attention.
He was asking for my obedience.
Sometimes I succeeded and sometimes I failed.
But my faith grew stronger with every trial.
I understand those times of testing now.
I understand the Lord needed me to grow closer toward Him so that He could do a work in me.
I see the wisdom of our verses today.
The words that really stand out to me are, “And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope”.
Habit.
The habit of being joyful even when things are difficult.
Habits take practice.
Lots of practice.
Although I don’t look forward to faith building times, I know they are necessary.
Today I embrace the difficulties that come so I can continue to nurture the habit of being joyful regardless of good or bad times.
May you find that the Lord is doing a work in you as you encounter difficulties and are able to remain joyful through them.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for doing a work in me even when I do not see You working. Thank You for walking with me and lifting me up during these difficult times. Thank You for showing me that You are building my character as the trials come. Help me be joyful no matter what the circumstances. Help me have joy in You at all times. You are Creator and Almighty God. You see me and cover me in Your grace independent of the chaos that is around me. Keep my eyes on You as things look grim because You are the Light. You sent Your Son so that I now have the Light with me wherever I go. Draw me close to You, Father. Keep me at Your feet. Lead and guide me this day and every day. Help me love others as they are going through difficult times. Help me serve where You show me to serve. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM at work in You continually, doing a new work in you to help you believe in Me more and more every day.
Response: Undeserving of Your time and attention, thank You, most gracious and loving God.
