“And they went and awakened Him, saying, Lord, rescue and preserve us! We are perishing!”
“And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm (a perfect peaceableness).”
A violent storm came upon the disciples and Jesus when they were out at sea.
They must have been there a while because Jesus was asleep in the boat.
And when the disciples were completely consumed with fear, they woke the Lord.
I saw something new as I read Jesus’ response this morning.
He called them timid and afraid.
Timid means to be lacking in courage and bravery.
Without courage and bravery, they could be nothing but fearful.
He said, “Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith?”
He pointed out faith and fear cannot coexist.
It couldn’t two thousand years ago, and it can’t today.
I can almost hear Jesus asking the same question today as so much fear abounds in our world.
It was a wonderful reminder that I should not let fear overwhelm my thoughts because when fear grips my soul, I am not living in faith.
Faith the Lord can and will come to my aid.
Faith the Lord sees me and my need.
Faith He will not disappoint.
Faith the Lord is bigger than this storm.
Faith the Lord still reigns.
Faith the Lord has a plan, and His plan is good.
I can rest in Him as He calms the storms in my life and this world.
I can be assured He will rebuke the storm and there will be a great and wonderful calm (a perfect peaceableness).”
Peace is mine and peace is yours.
It is His gift to His people.
Today I choose to live in faith and enter His peace.
May you find your faith in the Lord is strengthened and you are able to enter His rest and peace today.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me that faith and fear cannot coexist. Infuse my soul with an extra measure of faith today. May You calm the storms around me and lead me into Your perfect peace. Help me rest in You, Father for when all seems awry and our world is shaken, I know You are still in control. May Your will be done above all. May all things be done for Your glory. You are Almighty and All-powerful God. I praise You! I praise You for all You have done and all You will do. Your perfect nature shines through every storm. Thank You for watching over me and taking care of my every need. Thank You for working out all the circumstances in my life. Fill me with courage, bravery, and confidence in You, Lord. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
