Luke 24:36-38
“Now while they were talking about this, Jesus Himself took His stand among them and said to them, Peace be to you!”
“But they were so startled and terrified that they thought they saw a spirit.”
“And He said to them, Why are you disturbed and troubled, and why do such doubts and questions arise in your hearts?”
Jesus had risen from the dead but had not appeared to all the disciples yet.
The ones who hadn’t seen Him didn’t believe He had really risen from the dead.
Fear completely gripped them when He appeared to them because they thought they were seeing a ghost.
After all, they saw Him apprehended by the authorities and then crucified.
They all witnessed His death, and their expectation was that He would still be in the grave.
Jesus’ first words to them were of peace.
He said, “Peace be to you!”
However, they couldn’t receive it.
They were just too afraid.
Jesus asked them why they were so disturbed and troubled, and why they harbored doubt in their hearts.
I find myself in the disciples’ reactions and can easily ask myself the same question.
Why do I let fear, trouble, and doubt steal my peace?
It typically happens when I stop trusting God and His ability to care for me.
Fear settles in and then doubt transforms my former belief into unbelief.
But when I surrender and give control back to the Lord, He reassures me He is taking care of me.
Peace is restored to my soul once again.
Doubt disappears.
Just as Jesus was with the disciples two thousand years ago, He is with us today.
He watches over and protects us.
And He has many gifts for us.
One of those gifts is peace.
Today I choose faith over fear and allow God to be in control which restores my peace.
May you find the Lord is watching over you and caring for you, and that His peace fills your soul.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God thank You for being my Guardian. Thank You for watching over me and the family You have given me. Thank You for caring for me perfectly and for not letting me slip or stumble. Lord, help me fully release the burdens I carry to You. Help me give You all my troubles and cares. You are the God of the universe and God of my heart. May You increase my faith and belief in Your ability, Lord, for You are Almighty God and there is nothing You cannot do. Everything is in submission to You. May Your peace fill my spirit today. May You strengthen me and help me walk in Your ways. Equip me to serve as You ask me to serve. And may Your joy fill my soul. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you My child and will never leave you. My strength and peace are within you.
Response: Thank You, Almighty God and Father.
