Daily Word:
Matthew 12:7
“And if you had only known what this saying means, I desire mercy [readiness to help, to spare, to forgive] rather than sacrifice and sacrificial victims, you would not have condemned the guiltless.”
Jesus was talking to the Pharisees here.
They were driven by rules.
They felt worthy as they performed all the rituals that had been passed down through the generations.
It was all they knew.
Until Jesus came.
He came to show them and us another way.
He came to show us God’s heart.
Jesus said He desires mercy.
The Amplified Bible defines mercy here as the, “[readiness to help, to spare, to forgive]”.
Google defines mercy as: compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.
Instead of condemning others we are to help.
Instead of condemning others we are to spare them from punishment or harm.
Instead of condemning others we are to forgive and not seek revenge.
These are the things that Jesus desires for us.
He came to show us love, mercy, and pour His grace upon us.
He came to serve.
This verse exemplifies service at its highest.
Today I choose to offer mercy to those around me - serving where I am able, helping where I can, sparing punishment, and offering forgiveness.
May you find that as you are merciful to others that mercy will be poured over you by God Almighty.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for Your everlasting mercy, forgiveness, and love that You offer me. I am unworthy to receive all that You offer, but I am willing to receive from You, Lord. May the shame that I feel dissipate as You cover me, Father. Help me to grow into the person You desire me to be as I am covered by Your mercy. Help me offer to others what You so abundantly offer me. Help me forgive instead of seek revenge. Help me spare another from punishment and pain as I afford them the opportunity to try again. Help me serve others with joy, Lord. Help me see those in need today. Help me see those around me as You see them. Help me love them as You love them. Clear my thoughts and fill my soul with Your Spirit so that I may do as You desire. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I cover you with mercy, My child, and will give you enough to share with others.
Response: Help me not miss any that need Your mercy, Lord.
