Psalm 61:2-3
“From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].”
“For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary.”
King David wrote about difficulties and adversaries thousands of years ago.
There have always been people fighting people or at least the enemy trying to make it seem that way.
It can all be overwhelming at times.
I tend to shrink in fear and withdraw.
A younger version of me wasn’t always so afraid.
It seems my anxieties have grown over a lifetime.
Maybe I’m just more aware of danger than I used to be.
In any case, overwhelm and adversaries can debilitate us.
David wrote his heart felt overwhelmed to point of fainting.
And when he felt this way, he prayed the Lord would lead him to a rock.
Sometimes I feel the earth sinking around me almost like quicksand taking me under.
I become unsteady and unsure of myself.
Usually this happens when I am facing someone or something coming against me.
I need to take a pause and determine who and what I am actually fighting.
The enemy will stop at nothing to try and stop us.
We think we are struggling with people, but it is surely the enemy standing against us.
He simply uses people as his weapon.
There will always be battles we need to fight and obstacles to overcome.
But the Lord is bigger, greater, and mightier than anything coming against us.
He is not only our shelter, but He is our High Tower.
A place of refuge against the enemy, his army, and the battle.
There is nothing the Lord cannot do for us.
And nothing He will not do for us.
So, today I look to the Lord for shelter and strength to stand against the enemy and his tactics.
May you find the Lord is your strength and will shelter you from every storm the enemy sends your way.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for being the Shelter in the storm. Thank You for providing refuge in times of struggle. And thank You for being a Strong Tower protecting me from the enemy. Father, help me not shrink from the difficulties of this life. Help me not give into thoughts of being inferior, thoughts of unworthiness, and thoughts of not being good enough. Help me remember You crafted me perfectly for Your purpose. I was not made to serve the world. I was made to serve You. Lord, help me do all You have created me to do. Strengthen and encourage my heart and spirit to fulfill Your plan for me. Help me push through the obstacles and difficulties as I keep my eyes on You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you, My child, and have designed You perfectly for My use.
Response: Help me do all things unto You, God of the universe and God of my heart.
