Persistence in Faith
Luke 18:7-8
“And will not God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will he defer them and delay help on their behalf?”
“I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [persistence in] faith on the earth?”
Jesus was teaching about persistence in prayer and faith.
He told the people about the widow who kept asking a judge for help and justice.
He was not a fair or just judge but eventually helped her because of her sheer persistence.
Luke 18:1 summarizes this story to mean we should “always pray and not turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).”
This principle is often lost in the busyness of our lives.
We keep moving instead of taking the time to get quiet and pray which results in building our faith.
The game hot potato comes to mind.
We used to play this game years ago.
But it seems our life has become a game of hot potato.
Don’t hold onto anything long enough or we’ll get burned.
Don’t do anything long enough because we’ll get burned.
Don’t cultivate relationships deep enough because we’ll get burned
And don’t believe in anything long enough to get burned.
However, the exact opposite is true.
Jesus tells us so.
He tells us to not be a coward, lose heart, or give up.
He tells us to keep praying and keep believing.
Persistence is the secret.
A secret very few people discover.
Today I choose to lean into God and ask Him for an extra measure of faith, courage, and persistence to do all He asks me to do.
May you find the Lord will strengthen you in faith, courage, and persistence to move forward in your life as God has planned.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for sending Your Son to teach us about You and how we can find more of You. Father, I pray for persistence. Help me lean into You and lean into what You ask me to do. Don’t let me withdraw in fear. I pray for more courage, faith, and strength. Help me do what I think I cannot do. Fill my spirit with Yours so full that it overflows into my mind and over-powers my thoughts. Keep my eyes on You and not the confines of this world. Strengthen me with super-hero strength, Lord. Lead and guide my every step so I can do what You ask me to do. Help me walk in faith knowing You are the sculptor of my life. Stay close by me today, Father. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you, My child, and My spirit is within you to lead you into all I have commanded you to do.
Response: Strengthen me to do as You ask, Lord.
