Psalm 9:10
“And they who know Your name [who have experience and acquaintance with your mercy] will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity].”
I love how this verse talks about experience with God’s mercy.
The more and more I experience His mercy, the more I know I can trust Him and then lean on Him.
This verse is very well explained when we look at parenthood.
As a mother I was more merciful than harsh.
My children grew up in a loving atmosphere.
They always knew they could come to me with anything.
I tried to be understanding, caring, and loving with them.
Because of this they learned to trust me.
They found reassurance.
They found they could depend on me.
They could rely on me.
And because they were deeply loved they could then go out into the world and love others.
They became compassionate as they were shown compassion.
They became merciful to others as they were shown mercy.
Similarly, we find all of this inside of God’s presence and through experiences with Him.
More importantly, we are changed through our experiences with Him.
We become merciful to others because we have been shown great mercy.
We can love others because we have been so greatly loved.
We learn we can lean on and rely on God.
We come to trust Him completely.
Today I choose to lean on and rely on the God of my heart.
May you find that as God is merciful to you that your faith is strengthened and that you can, indeed, lean on and rely on Him completely.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for Your everlasting mercy. Thank You for Your Word that reminds me of Your goodness. Thank You for pouring Your grace and mercy over me so that I have come to know that You deeply love me. Just as a parent loves a child, You love me. And even though Your love surpasses my full understanding, as I come to You my heart is filled to the full and overflows. When I fail to be all that You want me to be, You draw me close to You and cover me. Thank You for sending Your Son to die for me so that I may be fully loved by You, fully forgiven, and can be seen as perfect in Your eyes. There is no greater gift. May I love as You love, Father. Help me be gracious and merciful to others as You are gracious and merciful toward me. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I love you, My child, and will always love you and keep you.
Response: Undeserving of all that You offer me, thank You, most gracious and merciful God.
