Daily Word:
Matthew 10:13
“Then if indeed that house is deserving, let come upon it your peace [that is, freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin]. But if it is not deserving, let your peace return to you.”
Jesus was sending the disciples out to the lost people of Israel.
They were to minister to them in the way that Jesus had ministered to the disciples.
They were sent out to heal.
They were to take nothing with them.
Just themselves and the spiritual gifts that had been bestowed upon them.
We know the story well.
The thing that stood out to me today in this story is when Jesus said, “But if it is not deserving, then let your peace return to you.”
Jesus always granted His peace.
The Amplified Bible translates the word peace in this instance to be, “[freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin].”
This is the true reason that Jesus came to this earth.
He came to save us from our sins.
And, yet, Jesus told the disciples to have their peace return to them if the household they were staying in was not worthy.
I started thinking about the peace I have lost in various relationships over the years.
We don’t have to let others steal our peace.
We can take Jesus’ advice.
When we feel taken advantage of, we can recall our peace and leave without feeling guilty.
Jesus didn’t say, cower to people.
He didn’t recommend staying with people if they don’t accept what we have to offer.
If we offer our gifts to others and they are not received well or accepted, we do not have to continue in relationship with them.
We can recall our peace and withdraw from them.
Today I ask God for wisdom to understand when it is time to withdraw and when it is His will to continue to give to others.
May you find that the Lord will guide you in your relationships with others so that you remain in peace.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the wisdom You teach me through Your Word. I desire to be more like You, Father. Please put Your wisdom into my soul so that I can act prudently and according to Your will for my life. Lead and guide my every step. Help me know the difference between a friend and someone who is not aligned with Your will. Help me walk away when You call me out of a relationship. And help me feel relieved and at peace as I follow You and leave some behind. May Your peace return to me, Lord. May Your love always shine through me. May Your Holy Spirit live in me. Help me bless and release people and activities that take me away from You. Help me bless someone this day, Father. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM leading you and guiding you into all good things, My child, so listen to your heart.
Response: Thank You, Almighty God and Father.
