II Corinthians 6:1
Laboring together [as God’s fellow workers] with Him then, we beg of you not to receive the grace of God in vain [that merciful kindness by which God exerts His holy influence on souls and turns them to Christ, keeping and strengthening them [do not receive it to no purpose].
The grace of God.
Normally we think about the grace of God as Jesus’ sacrifice to save us from our sins.
The Amplified Bible defines grace a little differently here in this passage.
Grace is used here as God’s merciful kindness.
In His merciful kindness, He influences our hearts to turn to His Son, Jesus.
I remember when God put a strong desire in my heart to know more about Jesus.
Yes, I knew Jesus was my Savior.
But I earnestly desired to know more about Him and Who He was when He walked on the earth.
So, I started studying His life in the four gospels.
I learned the importance of serving others as I read about Jesus serving countless people.
I learned how much He cares about us as I read about how He fed thousands of people on multiple occasions with just a few loaves of bread and fish.
I learned more about His heart as He cared for and dined with the poor and lowly.
I also learned more about the heart of God as I read about Jesus’ life.
Our verse tells us, God compasses us about in His mercy while leading us to the cross.
Then He strengthens us and keeps us as we learn and become sturdy in our faith
Paul implores us not to take God’s mercy for granted but be earnest in serving Him with purpose.
Today I choose to turn my eyes upon Jesus and seek to serve Him as He desires.
May you find the Lord, in His merciful kindness, directing your heart to Jesus and the cross as He leads you into His perfect plan for you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for mercifully guiding and leading our hearts to Your Son Jesus, our Savior. Thank You for sending Him to the earth to save us from our sins and grant us eternity with You. Lord, put an earnest desire in our hearts to learn more about Jesus and His sacrifice for us. Help us receive the love You have for us more fully. A love so great that was given at such great cost for us. And then help us seek to serve You as You desire. Help us walk into the plan You have for our lives. Strengthen us and equip us, Father, and help us be obedient to You. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM with you and will lead you into the plan I have for you. Keep your eyes on Me.
Response: Thank You, almighty and most merciful Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
