Luke 7:13-15
And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep. And He went forward and touched the funeral bier, and the pallbearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise [from death]! And the man [who was] dead sat up and began to speak. And [Jesus] gave him [back] to his mother.
Imagine a son being given back to a mother, especially when this mother had no one else to care for her.
His death was tragic, but the rest of her life would have been tragic as well.
She likely had no way of earning money, so her situation was desperate.
Jesus saw her need, and He did not hesitate to breathe life back into her son.
In fact, He demanded it.
There is an exclamation point after His command to the young man to rise from the dead!
He took her pain away without her even asking.
He sees our needs as well.
He sees our pain.
And His compassion compels Him to work miracles in our lives today for He withholds no good thing from His children.
As we approach a new Christmas Day, I remember a past Christmas when God saw our families’ need and met it through the generosity of someone who is still unknown to me.
As I walked in to serve one Sunday morning, the children’s pastor approached me and gave me an envelope.
She told me the person who provided the contents wanted to remain anonymous.
There were three hundred dollars in that envelope.
We previously didn’t know how we would provide a happy Christmas Day for our children with regards to presents, but God did.
And He did so through a very generous giver.
Yes, the Lord is compassionate, and He has a plan to meet all our needs.
Today I choose to fix my gaze on the One Who knows what I need and has the power to provide it.
May you find the Lord’s generosity and compassion reach down to meet all of your needs, my friend.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for Your never-ending compassion and mercy upon us. Thank You for reaching down to meet our needs. Thank You for always thinking of us and working to complete us. Hold on to us and never let us go, Lord. Keep us in Your tender care as we move through this day. Keep us seeking You, worshiping You, and leaning into You for all we need. May You bless our hearts during this holy time as we approach Christmas Day. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: You are Mine, and I will always love and take care of you.
Response: Thank You for holding us close to You, Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
