John 17:1-2
“When Jesus had spoken these things, he lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come. Glorify and exalt and honor and magnify Your Son, so that Your Son may glorify and extol and honor and magnify You.”
“Just as You have granted Him power and authority over all flesh (all humankind), [now glorify Him] so that He may give eternal life to all whom You have given Him.”
Jesus, the Servant.
He prayed God would allow Him to be the representative.
That God would make Him the living sacrifice.
The One to be nailed to the cross.
I could have never been able to pray this prayer.
And then I thought of my children.
I thought about the possibility of an ultimatum.
If I ever had to choose between me and them, I believe I would give my life for my children.
And I thought that is who we are to the Lord.
We are His precious children.
And I became so thankful for another perspective of love.
A perspective of how He loves us.
I often refer to the Lord as my Father.
But I don’t always think of me as His child.
So, I gain a bit more understanding about His love for us all with a new perspective.
His overwhelming and never-ending love for His children.
And I am thankful.
Thankful to be in His fold.
Thankful to be referred to in our passage as “all whom You have given Him.”
Thankful for eternal life with the Father and His Son.
Eternal life in His royal kingdom.
A sharer in His kingdom.
Today I am thankful Jesus decided in advance to give His life for me and thankful He prayed the Lord would glorify Him through His death to give me eternal life.
May you find gratefulness in that Jesus died to give you eternal life in heaven as part of His royal kingdom.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank you for sending Your Son to live on this earth and give His life for me and all Your people. Thank You for allowing Him to leave heaven’s door for a life that would end in His sacrifice. A life here on earth filled with difficulties, trials, and tribulations. A life filled with controversy and rejection. Thank You for granting me eternity through His final act of service here on earth. Because He died, I can live. Because He died, I look forward to eternity with You.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your determination to serve me through Your pain and through Your sacrifice. Thank You for temporarily lowering Yourself to a common criminal knowing You would be glorified forever. You are my Savior and King. You are my constant help and lifter of my soul. Help me share Your wondrous gift with others. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: My Son is the Sacrifice for all people from the beginning of time until the end, so that My people will remain with Me.
Response: Thank You, Almighty God and Father for making sure I am Yours.
