John 13:1 and 5
“Now before the Passover Feast began, Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and return to the Father. And as He had loved those who were His own in the world, He loved them to the last and to the highest degree.”
“Then He poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the [servant’s] towel with which He was girded.”
I love how our first verse says, “He loved them to the last and to the highest degree.”
As I read these words, I felt the holy love Jesus had for His disciples.
And not just for His disciples.
I felt that this is how He loves all His children – to the highest degree!
He knew His time of suffering was near.
And even in this difficult time, He chose to perform an act of service instead of asking for someone to attend to His needs.
This shows us just how selfless He was and still is today.
He served all of mankind when He washed the disciples’ feet.
And He served all of us when He allowed Himself to be nailed to the cross.
Jesus also showed us how important it is to serve others.
He was the disciples’ teacher, leader, miracle worker, and Savior.
But He turned the tables around and served them in a way that they and we could understand.
In a way we can all duplicate.
If He, the Messiah, would wear a servant’s towel and wash the feet of His disciples’, then our mission is one of service as well.
Today I am thankful Jesus served us as he gave it all, surrendered His life, and showed us that He and we are meant to serve.
May you find your special gift of service and offer it generously to others.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me Your Son came to serve. Thank You for allowing Him to leave heaven’s door and give His life to save mine. Thank You for reminding me of the importance to serve others. Help me find the special gift You’ve put in me to serve as You designed. Keep me humble, Lord, so I will do all You ask me to do. Bend my will to Yours. May Your will always be done. May Your joy be instilled in me as I walk the path You have for me. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM preparing the path for you to serve Me in the ways I ask My child.
Response: Help me be patient and obedient to Your call, Father.
