Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal.”
“But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven,”
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Jesus was giving His sermon on the Mount.
He was disclosing Truth after Truth.
In our verse today Jesus warned them about where to NOT place importance.
He told them to be careful about putting their faith and energy in material things.
As I read these verses, I felt an overwhelming sense about the lifetime we give to our work in order to make a living and have nice things.
Sometimes our efforts are more for our children because we want them to have nice things.
So, our days are largely consumed with earning a living which will provide for them and us.
I know I have spent way too much time and energy on this in the past.
However, I find I’m putting much less importance on things as of late and regret ever putting so much importance on them before.
Jesus told the people to put their energy into heavenly things.
I asked the Lord to help me understand this more clearly, and the scripture I was directed to was Psalm 39:6-7.
“Surely every man walks to and for – like a shadow in a pantomime, surely for futility and emptiness he is in turmoil; each one heaps up riches, not knowing who will gather them.”
“And now, Lord, what do I want for and expect? My hope and expectation are in You.”
So, I look through another lens today.
I shift my perspective.
My hope and expectation are in Him and not my ability or worldly riches.
Today I choose to hope in, expect in, and rely on the Lord as I look to Him and see Him as my true treasure chest of gold.
May you find the Lord is worth more gold than the whole world can offer and seek Him before seeking worldly riches.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for teaching me more about how I should live. Thank You for clearing away the old and showing me the new. Thank You for shifting my perspective, so I can draw closer to You. Help me set the cares of this world aside. Help me chase after You instead of chasing after worldly riches. Keep my heart seeking You, Lord. Keep my eyes on You instead of the things which cannot bring me eternal joy. Help me wait upon You and expect in You. May Your voice lead and guide me. Help me be obedient to You, Father. Help me serve You with a joyful heart. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM the Great I AM, and I will give you far more than the world can give you, My child.
Response: Help me listen to You and obey You as You lead me closer to You and further away from the cares of this world.
