Luke 2:1-2 and 4
“In those days it occurred that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole Roman empire should be registered.”
“This was the first enrollment, and it was made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.”
“And Joseph also went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the town of David, which was called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David.”
As I read the beginning of our Christmas story, I saw something new.
The first Christmas was going to be documented.
Documented so it could be read many times over for all Christmas’ to come.
And not just for us, but so the prophecy of the Messiah’s birth would be accurately documented as well.
Prophets of old foretold Jesus would come from the house of David.
That He would be born in Bethlehem.
And this came to pass.
Even though Jesus would be known as a Nazarene, His beginnings took Him to Bethlehem.
God’s divine plan was set in motion with the first census declared by Quirinius.
The first census which called everyone to their hometown occurred at the time of Jesus’ birth.
Mary was at the end of her pregnancy when they made this ninety-mile trip.
How is it that she did not give birth during this difficult journey?
She could have given birth at any time during that journey.
But God had a divine plan.
God’s plan thousands of years ago was orchestrated perfectly.
And He has a plan us for today too.
His perfect plan for our lives is perfectly in motion.
When I am overwhelmed with the details of my life, the what ifs of my life, I turn to the Lord.
I turn to Him and give Him my worry, my fear, and my anxious thoughts.
I do not know how God is going to do all the things He is going to do, but I do know He does.
I do know He has a plan.
And His plan is good.
Jeremiah 19:11 says, “For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”
Today I choose God’s plan over my own and give Him my will to bend as He chooses.
May you find the Lord’s plan is good and He will take care of you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for Your Word today. Thank You for sharing that You have a plan, and Your plan is good. Thank You for showing me You have every detail of every situation worked out perfectly. Help me wait on You. Put patience in my heart, so I can wait for Your perfection, Lord. Stop my mind from worrying and help me wait on You. Quiet the unrest in my soul and grant me peace today. Bend my will to Yours, Lord. Strengthen me to do all You ask. Shine a light to guide my feet. Put Your joy in my heart today as I serve those around me. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM working all things out for your good and My glory, My child. Wait on Me.
Response: Give me patience, Father, as I wait on You.
