Luke 1:78-79
“Because of and through the heart of tender mercy and loving-kindness of our God, a Light from on high will dawn upon us and visit [us].”
“To shine upon and give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct and guide our feet in a straight line into the way of peace.”
Zachariah was prophesying about Jesus after his son, John the Baptist was born.
He talked about the mercies of our Lord.
The mercy and loving-kindness God had upon them and still has upon us.
However, the divide between heaven and earth can make Him seem so far from us.
And anything so far away can seem ominous and a bit scary.
It’s kind of like being afraid of things here on earth that we do not fully understand.
For example, I’ve been afraid of supervisors or managers at work if I didn’t really know them, or when I had done something wrong inadvertently or intentionally.
My mind would conjure up all sorts of fearful interchanges and possible outcomes.
Most never came to pass.
But it didn’t change the fact that I sat in fear and anxiety much of the time.
Similarly, it’s easy to conjure up a less than loving God in our minds.
A God Who is more of a taskmaster instead of a kind and merciful God.
However, our God IS a loving God just as Zachariah told us.
Not only is He loving, but He is LOVE.
He sent His Son to show us Who He really is.
Then He sacrificed His Son to give us Who He really is.
As our second verse so perfectly states He sent His Son, “To shine upon and give light to those who sit in darkness and to direct and guide our feet in a straight line into the way of peace.”
Just as my earthly father would not want me to sit in the dark and live an unpurposeful life full of confusion and anxiety, our heavenly Father does not desire this either.
God sent His Son to light our way and lead us straight to peace.
I love this.
I mean I really love this.
Our most gracious God desires peace for us and He leads us straight to it.
Today I choose peace over chaos and will follow the Light He shines to lead and guide me.
May you find the Lord is shining His Light to lead and guide you to perfect peace as well.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me just how much You love me. Thank You for showing me You sent Your Son to lead and guide me to Your everlasting peace. Thank you for sending Your Son to save me from fear and darkness. You Light the path for me to follow. Your Light shines bright, Father and warms my spirit. Help me follow You no matter the cost. Help me continue to seek You and learn of You. You are the God of the universe and God of my heart. Do not let me slip or fall, Lord. Hold me up through this season and the next. May my heart always worship You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
