What is Faith?
Colossians 1:4
For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus [the leaning of your entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness] and of the love which you [have and show] for all the saints (God’s consecrated ones).
I love the meaning of the word faith used in this passage.
First, it is the leaning of our entire personality on God.
I don’t know about you, but my personality has gotten in the way over the years.
I have been too opinionated, impatient, and independent.
These traits can be negative, however, used correctly can be assets.
As Paul suggests, I have to fully lean on God to teach me how to use these traits properly.
Sometimes I have to put on patience when I’d rather move ahead.
Sometimes I have to be quiet instead of voice my opinion.
God can help us do the right thing at the right time as we lean into Him.
Second, the word faith means we trust in God’s power.
We must trust He has the power to do anything and everything He desires to do in us and through us.
He can mold us into His faithful servants to do His will.
He can also use us in the very state we are in.
We do not have to be perfect to be used by God, just willing.
His power always supersedes our inability.
Third, Paul says faith is trusting in God’s wisdom.
God is Wisdom.
His will is Wisdom.
And we can trust in both.
Finally, faith is trusting in God’s goodness.
Our God has unending mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
God is good.
All the time.
Not every circumstance in our lives is good, but God is good.
Today I choose to bask in God’s goodness and allow my fears and difficulties to dissolve in His presence.
May you have confidence in the Lord’s power, wisdom, and goodness this day.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for Your never-ending mercy and love. Thank You for continually showing us Your faithfulness. Thank You for molding and shaping us. Thank You for the promise that You will continue to change us, so we are better able to serve You. May You pour Your wisdom into our soul. Help us wait on You to lead and guide us. Do not let us go ahead of You, Lord. Your way is better than ours. Always bend our will to Yours. Keep us seeking You, listening for Your gentle whispers, and obeying Your commands. Do not let us get in the way of Your plan, Lord. Increase our faith, Father. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I will continue to teach, mold, and shape you so you may do My will and serve Me as I ask you to serve.
Response: Keep our hearts soft toward You so we will be obedient to You, Lord. Amen
