Luke 11:8
I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
Jesus taught His disciples how to pray.
He gave them the words to the Lord’s prayer.
In explaining how to pray, He told them the story about a friend who went to another friend to ask for loaves of bread.
The man knocked on his friend’s door in the middle of the night.
Of course, the man did not want to get up to do this favor for his friend.
But because of his persistence, he got up and gave him what he asked for.
Jesus said, “yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs”.
This story shows us the significance of persistence.
In the next verse of our passage Jesus told His disciples, “Ask and keep on asking and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking and the door shall be opened to you.”
The Lord desires our prayers.
In fact, Jesus invites us to be shamelessly persistent.
There are times when I feel like I am praying for and asking for the same things over and over.
Jesus tells us to continue.
Be relentless.
In these days and times, we need to keep praying.
Jesus never told us to give up.
He tells us to pray continuously.
Today I choose to believe that the Lord is answering my prayers and granting me that which I seek.
May you find that the Lord is receiving and answering your prayers today and every day.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for hearing our prayers and answering them. Thank You that we can continue to come to You with the same prayers over and over and You never tire of hearing from us. Increase our faith, Lord, and help us be confident that You are working in all the circumstances of our lives. Help us be patient as we wait on You to answer, Lord. Help us keep doing what You ask of us while we are in the waiting room. Keep us from taking things in our own hands as You diligently work on our behalf. May Your peace cover us as we wait, Lord. Help us serve others and tend to their needs as You ask. May we be the answer to someone’s prayer today. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I wait for your prayers and hear them as I work everything out according to My plan.
Response: Help us wait upon You, Father. Amen
