Purify My Heart, Lord
Psalm 19:12 and 14
“Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.”
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
I love King David’s prayer here.
He prays the Lord will keep him from making errors that he is not even aware he’s making.
Wisely, he points out it’s difficult to be aware of our own faults.
We can certainly discern faults in others but have difficulty discerning our own especially when they are hidden from our consciousness.
I’ve never prayed this prayer, however, today is a good day to start.
We all know the second verse in our passage, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
Interestingly, David brings up his words.
He prays his words are acceptable to the Lord.
A wise prayer, indeed.
David knew his words were powerful and he desired God’s approval for them.
He also asked that his thoughts and heart longings be acceptable to the Lord.
Again, a very wise prayer.
God continues to show me that everything we think about and meditate on affects the world around us.
So, I ask Him to sanctify my heart, mind, and emotions.
I ask Him to purify my soul.
Today I believe the Lord continues to purify my soul as His Spirit abides within me.
May you find the Lord is sanctifying your heart, mind, and spirit and He is fully residing in you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me I need to pray You will keep me from sins I am unaware of. Lord, cleanse me through and through. Purify my heart and soul. Do not let me unknowingly sin. Show me the error of my ways and bring to my consciousness everything I am doing that is not acceptable to You. Please help me think worthy thoughts. Help me meditate on You and Your perfect nature and then make me more like You. May my heart love as You love. May my actions be of service to You. May my heart be lifted into Your presence so I can bask in Your love and be made whole once again. Strengthen me to stay in Your grasp and not be lured into the enemy’s trap. Keep me Yours, Lord. Keep me Yours for all eternity. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM the God Who sees, and your heart is beautiful to Me My child.
Response: Undeserving of Your attention, love, and care, thank You most gracious God and Father.
