Daily Word:
Psalm 119:66
“Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed (trusted, relied on and clung to) Your commandments.”
Psalm 119 is a series of prayers.
This psalm is believed to be a psalm that David wrote and used it to teach Solomon, his son, what he needed to know about the Lord.
It would have been something like a road map for Solomon.
Just as we go to school, David was teaching Solomon the basics of the ways of the Lord.
His prayer here is that the Lord would teach him, “good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge”.
We know that Solomon asked first and foremost for Wisdom from the Lord.
God granted his request and Solomon earned the title as the wisest man that ever lived.
In addition to his Wisdom, the Lord gave Solomon everything else he could have ever desired as well.
As kings, Wisdom and good judgment would serve both David and Solomon.
And for me, as a simple servant, I desire Wisdom and good judgment as well.
If I do not live my life with these two qualities, I will continue to make the same mistakes as I have always made.
I wouldn’t run my household well.
I wouldn’t have raised my children as I did, and they would be lost well into their adulthood.
I continue to seek Wisdom most ardently.
Maybe because I haven’t always had it.
I didn’t always consult with the Lord.
There were many years I pursued my life as I would want it to be.
But those years did not serve me except to show me that I cannot live without God as the captain of my ship.
So, I continue to ask the Lord for more Wisdom and good judgment.
Today I choose to follow the Lord and seek after Wisdom, good judgment, and knowledge so that I can walk in the ways of the Lord.
May you find that as you seek the Lord you will find Him, and He will grant you Wisdom and good judgment to live your life in peace.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for granting me more Wisdom as I learn more of You. Thank You for giving me better judgment and more knowledge as I seek You. Help me reverence You in every way, Father. Help me follow Your commands and love Your people as You ask of me. Soften my heart so that I have compassion and empathy for all those You bring into my life. Put a servant’s heart in me so that I honor and serve others as You would have me do. Help me walk in Your ways, Lord. Keep me from going my own way. Keep my eyes on You. Help me hear Your gentle whispers and nudge me so that I immediately obey You. Bend my will to Yours, Lord. Light the path that You have for me to follow. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I will show you more of Who I AM so that Wisdom will fill your heart and mind and you will walk in knowledge and good judgment.
Response: Thank You, Almighty and All-Wise Father God.
