Genesis 17:15-16
And God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai; but Sarah [Princess] her name shall be.
And I will bless her and give you a son also by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.
I love this passage because I love princess stories.
God told Abraham to start calling his wife Princess.
Well, He told Abraham her name would now be Sarah which means princess.
He also said He was going to bless Sarah with a son.
She would be the mother of nations.
Kings would be born through her lineage.
A truly beautiful story of fairy tale proportions.
It’s an amazing story of God’s grace.
Sarai had fallen short and sinned and yet, the Lord was still going to bless her.
She became impatient to have the child promised her.
So, in her seventies, she told Abraham to take her maid so she could finally raise a child.
But when the baby was born, Sarai found herself filled with hatred.
Hatred for a child the Lord hadn’t meant for her.
And hatred for his mother.
Even though she fell short of God’s best for her, the Lord was determined to bless her.
He not only blessed her with a child but ordained her to be a princess.
I am blessed to by this story because sometimes I feel I am too old, worn, tired, and sinful for God to want to bless me.
But when I read about His grace, and His pursuit to bless others, I am thankful.
Thankful I don’t have to be perfect for Almighty God to desire to bless me.
Thankful God can bless me even in the face of my failures.
No matter how undeserving we may feel, God’s desire to bless His children doesn’t change.
Let us walk more closely with the One Who desires the best for His children.
Today I choose to be open to receiving God’s blessings even when I don’t feel worthy of them.
May you find the Lord has many blessings to bestow upon you and is standing by for you to receive them.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for being the God who desires to bless His children. Thank You for not requiring perfection in us before You deem us worthy to receive Your blessings. Lord, we pray You take away the shame of our sins and help us receive all the wondering things You desire to give us. Help us fully receive Your Holy Spirit. Help us receive the spiritual gifts You desire us to have. And help us use those gifts to serve others. Keep us humble, Lord. May we seek to serve before being served. Help us walk into Your perfect will for our lives and be obedient to You in every way. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM the Great I AM, and I desire to bless all My children.
