The Gift of Peace

Matthew 10:13
“Then if indeed that house is deserving, let come upon it your peace [that is, freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as a result of sin]. But if it is not deserving let your peace return to you.”
Jesus was sending His disciples out to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and more.
He gave them specific instructions about how it was going to go.
The gifts they had to offer were wonderful, miraculous, and much needed, but I am particularly drawn to the gift of peace.
In our passage here it means the “freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as a result of sin.”
This is a different kind of peace than I am used to thinking about.
I generally think of peace as a calm and quiet space or a lack of dissension.
I am thankful to find a peaceful moment or two during the day when all is quiet.
But the kind of peace Jesus is talking about is the release of the hold that sin has on our minds and spirits.
The kind of peace that brings a quiet to our spirit.
The feelings of regret dissipate.
And there is a knowing in our soul the Lord loves us, forgives us, and sees us white as snow.
This is the gift the disciples had to give.
I know I am not deserving of that kind of peace.
But I am given it, nonetheless.
Not because of who I am but because of Who Jesus is.
Because He died to make it so.
I may not feel good enough, worthy enough, or deserving enough.
But the God of us all sent His son to allow us this beautiful kind of peace.
And I am thankful the Lord offers it freely.
Today I choose to lean into the Lord and experience the peace Jesus died to give me.
May you experience the Lord’s peace today as you sit with Him and allow His quiet, calm, sweet Spirit to bathe yours.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me Your peace is a gift beyond measure. Thank You for sending Your Son to grant me such peace. Help me fully receive the calm and sweetness of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for allowing me to sit in Your presence and be made whole and complete as often as I sit with You. Call me to You this day. Help me see You working beside me, Father. Help me see You working in all the circumstances of my life. How I love to see You work. Grant me patience to allow You to work in Your timing and not demand it in my timing. And grant me Your peace today. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM working out all the details of your life and My peace is yours My child.
Response: Undeserving of such grace and mercy, thank You, Lord.
