The Lord Needs It

Mark 11:2-3
“And instructed them, Go into the village in front of you, and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied, which has never been ridden by anyone; unfasten it and bring it [here].”
“If anyone asks you, Why are you doing this? Answer, The Lord needs it, and He will send it back here presently.”
I have read these verses many, many times over the years.
Today, however, I was struck with Jesus’ request in this scripture.
Jesus asked His disciples to go and get the colt which seemed so random.
But this was the donkey Jesus would ride on into the city on the very first Palm Sunday.
There are times I’ve felt the Lord has given me a random task.
This scripture clearly showed me there is no random in kingdom living.
Even if I feel like God is telling me to do something that isn’t very inspiring, or just not important to me, I must know He has a reason.
How could the disciples have really known what they were up to and what future significance it would mean to go get the colt?
This simple act would become a part of the very first Palm Sunday.
The Sunday before Christ would die on the cross for all sins of all people.
Similarly, how can I know the meaning of a simple act the Lord asks me to complete?
I cannot.
My job is to be obedient to His requests of me.
It is not to question what He asks me to do.
So, I need to put down the dishes and listen when He says listen.
I need to stop the never-ending chores and be present with my family.
Today I choose to listen to God’s whispers and obey Him before I complete the tasks ahead of me.
May you find as God asks seemingly random tasks of you, you will be blessed.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for teaching me to listen. Thank You for slowing me down inside of the seemingly endless duties I have so I can take time to listen to You. Help me obey Your every command. Help me see I am blessed beyond measure when I listen to You and obey. May Your will be done over mine. Help me set aside my desire to accomplish things and take the precious time with my family that will never be recaptured once gone. May Your grace be upon me so all the little things can be easily done in order to attend to the greater things today. Help me set aside any resentment I have about serving and put joy in my heart instead. Help me hear every whisper, Lord. Show me the beauty every moment of this day provides. Don’t let me miss You. May Your peace settle upon me and upon my household. Help me bless someone this day, Lord. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you and will bless the precious moments of your day.
Response: Thank You, most gracious and blessed Lord.
