Daily Word:
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.”
As holy week continues, I was struck with this verse this morning.
It was written about one thousand years before Christ would die on the cross.
King David wrote Psalm 34 before we were given the true gift of forgiveness.
This is one of my very favorite verses in the Bible.
I take comfort in knowing that God is close.
I desire relationship with Him.
I desire communication with Him.
I desire His love.
And I desire His forgiveness.
When Jesus died on the cross, we were given access to instant forgiveness and restoration with the Lord.
But before His death and resurrection, people had to wait for a priest, a ritual, a right time of year.
Even so, David seemed to be in constant relationship with God.
He knew true repentance.
He sought restoration when he felt disconnected with the Lord.
He desperately sought God’s presence at all times and in all things.
And he found it when others did not.
Even now, two thousand plus years after Jesus’ death and resurrection, our verse is powerful and holds true.
“The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.”
With true repentance Jesus’ sacrifice immediately restores our relationship with the Great I AM, and we are back in His full presence.
Back in His arms.
Back in His peace.
Covered by His mercy.
And filled with His love.
Today I look to God for His perfect presence in my world as I draw closer to Him.
May you find that God is close to you this day as you draw closer to Him.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me that You are close to me today. Thank You for showing me mercy. Thank You for drawing me close to You, Father, as I sit in Your presence and learn of You. Help me to be humble and ask for forgiveness for all my wrong doings. Keep my heart soft toward You, Lord. Help me to be immediately aware when I am going my own way and not listening to You. Lead and guide my every thought, word, and deed today. Light up the way I should go. As the tasks are many and the routines are unsettled, light the way for me, Lord. Show me what is important and help me let go of things that aren’t. Help me do what You desire me to do, Father. Keep me at Your feet learning more of You and then help me help another. Ready me for Your service and strengthen me to do as You ask. Help me walk boldly into Your plan and help me quickly set aside my plans. Strengthen my character, grant me wisdom, and cover me in peace, Lord. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM leading you into the glorious plan I have for you, My child, to do My will.
Response: Help me to be completely obedient to You, Father, so that I may do Your will without hesitation.
