The Prince of Peace

Luke 19:37-38
“As He was approaching [the city], at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God [extolling Him exultantly and] loudly for all the mighty miracles and works of power that they had witnessed,”
“Crying, Blessed is the King Who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven [freedom there from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin] and glory (majesty and splendor) in the highest [heaven]!”
This was the first Palm Sunday ever recorded.
The people praised Jesus in the streets.
May this passage help us remember why we celebrate His birth as we start this Christmas week.
He is Blessed!
He is the King, the Man, Who came in the name of the Lord!
He came to bring us the gift of peace.
The meaning of peace in our passage is “freedom there (in heaven) from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin”.
We certainly look forward to the day when our sins no longer have a hold on us.
The day we’ll experience perfect peace in heaven.
But it is possible to experience some of that here on earth.
Jesus had just told a parable about it.
And then He said, “I tell you that to everyone who gets and has will more be given, but from the man who does not get and does not have, even what he has will be taken away.”
The more peace we receive, the more we will be given.
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace.
It is our right and privilege to receive the gifts He came to offer.
So, this week when we find ourselves getting overwhelmed by all the things that need to be done, we can also ask for more peace.
May we take a few moments each day to reflect on the reason we celebrate Jesus’ birth.
And may we walk in His peace throughout this week.
Today I choose peace and pray the Lord keeps my spirit in His peace as this very holy week begins.
May you find the Lord will grant you His peace as you prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for sending Your Son to this world to bring us peace. Thank You for the peace You bring to me every day. Father, as this week begins and there are many tasks to do, may my spirit be held by You. May I sit with You for a few precious moments this morning as You wrap me in a blanket of peace. Settle my mind and keep my focus on You. I give you all the burdens of my soul and all the worries of my mind and set them at Your feet. I trust You with all my cares and troubles and rely on Your wisdom and power to work out the details of my life. Help me be present in the lives of those around me today and fill me with Your joy and love as I move through this day. Help me bless someone today. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: My peace is Yours, My child, and I AM with you and working in every circumstance of your life. Trust in Me today.
Response: Thank You for Your perfect care and watch over me, most gracious and merciful Lord.
