Time and Space

John 7:4 and 6
“For no one does anything in secret when he wishes to be conspicuous and secure publicity. If You [must] do these things [if You must act like this], show Yourself openly and make Yourself known to the world!”
“Whereupon Jesus said to them, My time (opportunity) has not come yet; but any time is suitable for you and your opportunity is ready any time [is always here].”
Jesus’s brothers didn’t initially believe in Him.
Like most brothers, they were had their own opinions and put Jesus down because their opinions differed.
Even though they were antagonistic, Jesus was not.
He did not lash out them as some brothers do when there is contention.
He simply said to them, “any time is suitable for you and your opportunity ready any time [is always here].”
I found this to be a beautiful example of God’s mercy.
Jesus wasn’t in a rush.
He wasn’t aggressive.
He simply said they could partake of God’s mission when they were ready.
And He didn’t put a time frame on it.
Jesus took His time with His brothers.
And we know that at least two of His brothers did come to know Him as the Messiah.
Both James and Jude worked to further the kingdom.
In fact, there are two books of the Bible with their names on them.
So, their time did come.
I’m sure Jesus knew it would one day.
He gave them space.
Space to learn of Him and space to understand.
Sometimes I don’t think I give people enough time or space.
Particularly my family.
I expect things to get done now.
But as I read today’s passage, I began to feel a release of stress as I saw Jesus give His brothers both time and space.
This is also a message of hope.
Hope for our family members who don’t know Christ yet.
Hope they will still come to know Him in an intimate way.
There is time.
There is space.
Their opportunity is ready for them any time they choose.
Today I choose peace and pray the Lord will grant me His mercy to offer others as He so generously offers it to me.
May you find the Lord is generously offering you time and space to get to know Him better and learn more about His love for you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for showing me more of Your mercy. Thank You for showing me there is time. Just as Your Son offered time and space for His brothers to accept the invitation to believe in Him, help me offer time and space to those who mean the most to me. Help me grant mercy as You do, Lord. Help me be less demanding. Help me slow down. Help me allow others the opportunity to slow down too. Help me take time to love as You love. Help me take time to help where help is needed. Soften my heart and put more compassion in my soul so I may offer it to others. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM love, compassion, and mercy My child, and ask you to be My hands and heart to help others.
Response: Help me do all that You ask me to do, Lord.
