John 2:5,7-8
“His mother said to the servants, Whatever he says to you, do it.”
"Jesus said to them, Fill the water pots with water. So, they filled them up to the brim.”
“Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the manager of the feast. So they took him some.”
Of course, we know how the story of this miracle ends.
Jesus made the best wine served at the wedding.
I thought it was interesting the first miracle Jesus ever performed in public was this one.
It wasn’t a miraculous healing.
He didn’t bring someone back to life.
And He didn’t calm the raging sea.
He simply provided wine for a wedding party.
A beautiful gift for the bride and groom.
As I read about His merciful act, a couple thoughts came to mind.
The first was simple obedience.
The servants were under no obligation to be obedient to Jesus’s command to fill the pots.
These pots held twenty to thirty gallons so would weigh about two hundred forty pounds when filled.
This required a tremendous amount of work for someone who likely had no idea what was about to happen.
How would they have known Jesus could turn water into wine?
They didn’t.
They simply obeyed.
I began to wonder what would happen if I simply obeyed Jesus.
Obedience is powerful.
Jesus’s mother told them to do whatever He said.
Her words speak volumes to me today.
Second, what miracles would await me if I truly looked to Jesus for everything I needed and allowed Him the space to help me?
Sometimes I feel like a two-year old pretending I can do it myself.
As I watched my two-year old’s attempt something they couldn’t do yet, I had to wait for them to finish trying before they would accept my help.
And I wonder if this is what it looks like from heaven.
Jesus provided a very simple miracle for this wedding.
And He desires to take care of us just as He did the wedding party two thousand years ago.
So, I pray the Lord helps me listen to Him and obey Him.
I pray He helps me hear Him amidst the noise and chaos of the world around me.
Today I choose to be obedient to the Lord as He speaks to my heart.
May you find the Lord is speaking to you as He plans for your next miracle.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for teaching me about Your mercy. Thank You for showing me You tend to all my needs no matter how trivial they may seem. Just as Jesus turned the water into wine for a wedding party You care about all the details of my life. You care about the little things I worry about. And You care about the big things I can do little about. You generously bless and provide for me. Thank You, Father, for being so present in my life. You are always with me even though the veil separates us. Help me love others as You love me. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you My child and desire to bless and provide for you in all ways.
Response: Help me be obedient to You and receive all Your blessings, Lord.
