Matthew 12:36-37
“But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.”
“For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.”
Words are powerful.
They either breathe life or death.
There is no in-between.
God created the heavens, earth, sky, and all that is within them with His words.
We are crafted in His image and, therefore, have also been given power in our words.
They either create or destroy.
They are positive or negative.
Jesus gives us a glimpse of just how powerful our words are.
He tells us we will have “to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word”
we speak.
I was highly convicted by His words and wondered how many idle words I’ve spoken.
There are plenty.
So, I ask for forgiveness and pray for His help because left to myself, I am unable to stop.
Jesus also tells us our words either acquit or condemn us.
I believe this happens sooner than our heavenly meeting because I’ve seen it happen here on earth.
We create good or evil by our words.
We are sentenced to the life we talk about.
Our thoughts play a huge part in this because they come first.
We get to choose what we think about or at least we should.
We think tens of thousands of thoughts every day.
Some enter our minds without much notice.
Others are intentional.
Philippians 4:8 says, “Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].”
Keeping our minds on the beautiful helps keep our minds off the ugly and then speaking about it.
Today I choose to think thoughts and speak words that are intentionally life giving to me and those around me.
May you find you are able to turn your thoughts to the Lord and speak life giving words over your life.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for reminding me I am responsible for the words I say. Thank You for also reminding me to be careful about what I think because those thoughts turn into words. Father, help me meditate on You and keep my eyes on You. Help me think on the lovely, beautiful, and excellent. Set a guard upon my mouth and allow only life-giving words to be said. May Your thoughts be my thoughts. May Your desires be my desires. May Your Spirit fill mine. Keep charge over me, Lord, and help me be fully obedient to You. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM the Great I AM, and you are able to do all things through Me My child.
Response: Strengthen me in every way, Lord, so I can do all You ask me to do.
